DASHON AUBREY. HILL - If time fails to heal
DaShon Aubrey. Hill (American, b. 1998) is a self-taught visual artist who produces paintings & drawings. His works are reactions to every day news/media, wildlife, internal and external conflict, from social injustice to personal constraint, race, sexuality, and self-pity, using abstraction & surrealism as a tool to bring spiritual and emotional response into physicality.
Attending Thiel College to study Biology where he skipped most courses for art history and sculpting classes, Aubrey. Hill quickly found himself, as a writer, struggling with self expression and quickly turned to dropping out. Shortly after, he found himself interested in visual arts, studying artists like George Condo, Arshile Gorky, and de Kooning. His biggest influences, despite them being musical artists, are Frank Ocean & Kendrick Lamar— feeling that their words are visual artworks in themselves.
With our everyday realities being tainted by toxic media outlets & placements of power, Aubrey searches for his own answers and looks to convey the raw, energetic emotion felt through his personal spiritual journey coined “emotional abstraction”; a journey that has enabled connection to higher powers through abstraction and all creation alike.
Aubrey. Hill was born, raised, and currently resides in Rochester, New York.
